Description
Current Lot A Regence provincial carved walnut commode, First Quarter 18th Century, The rectangular molded serpentine-edge top above a conforming case with three drawers each with panelling with bronze bail and rosette pulls flanking rocaille escutcheons above a cockbeaded serpentine apron flanked by panelled ends on short cabriole legs with scroll toes. Note condition: The top of the commode has a separation between two joined panels. There is surface wear, scratches, staining and losses to finish throughout the entire piece, worst on the top. Worm holes throughout. Middle drawer is lacking the lock mechanism. We have the fragments from the losses on the drawer lip. The hardware does not look as though it has been replaced. It is structurally sturdy. The feet have severe wormhole damage, the right foot especially. Losses to all four feet. Back panel has wormhole damage. There are two screws holding the bowing top on. h:37.25 w:47.50 d:24.75 in. Provenance: From the Estate of Odette Valabregue Wurzburger.
